The Nexus line is gone for good. Don’t expect Google to revive it because it’s been replaced by the Pixel. Hopefully, the Pixel devices (Pixels?) will be patronized by more people this time as the “first” set of Google-branded phones. Because there’s no more Nexus series, we doubt if the rumored Nexus tablet will still be announced. Probably with a different name but before that happens, let’s focus on the Nexus 9 LTE.
If you own a Nexus 9 LTE, you’d be happy to know that your tablet is eligible for Android 7.0 Nougat. This isn’t a ROM or a hack but an official update complete with the September security patch. We’re expecting this one since Google announced the Nougat updates for both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE.
The Nexus 6 got the update a few days ago but with the October security patch already. Now it’s the Nexus 9 LTE’s turn. Note that this is for the LTE variant and not the WiFi version. That one may soon arrive but we don’t know when exactly.
An OTA update notification should be received soon. If you see the NRD90R build number, then it means you are already updated to the latest version. You can also get the OTA image download page. Unfortunately, there’s no factory image ready for download yet.
