Take a peek at a rather enticing Android 2.2 Froyo handset that’ll be available this spring (2011) from LG, carried by T-Mobile. This is the “T-Mobile G2x with Google by LG” – that’s the official title, as our main homie Brian Scollo from LG tells us. This is a Vanilla flavoring of Android 2.2 Froyo, which, as you know, means its just the basics, a great way to experience Android if I do say so myself, and what’s inside? No less than our good pal the NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-Core Processor, here each processor clocked in at 1Ghz. Power woo!
To demonstrate some of the loveliness going on here in this G2x machine, Scollo shows off the game N.O.V.A., a massively impressive first-person shooter that, although it’s been out now for Android for some time, has received little to no love from Android sites, more than likely because it’s not available for purchase in the Android Market, it’s got to be purchase on Gameloft’s own online store.
The point Scollo makes with Gameloft’s shooter is that Tegra 2 makes this device as sweet at the XOOM or the ATRIX 4G in jamming around games like they were blades of grass and the phone were a boot. Then it’s got all the other basic standards for a high-end phone going for it like an 8-megapixel camera on the back, (LG’s highest megapixel camera on a phone at the point when it will be launching,) “if nothing else launches before that.” Is that a clever hint at another secret device?
When Scollo says “if nothing else launches before that,” I’m basically certain he meant it simply to mean that there would be nothing launching with a higher res camera in the meantime. We could probably take that sentence and make a mountain out of it, but we’ll skip on the wacky tinfoil hats for the moment.
We take a peek at some functions of the camera, speak about the internal memory being 8GB, see that the hardware is indeed running Android 2.2.2 Froyo, and that, surprise! This phone can run DIVX! The ability to play more formats than fewer, especially when you’re talking about what I’d call a nerdy format like DivX, that’s a good sign for everyone! Of course, Scollo does not that users will have to convert files into AVI to put them on the device, which is confusing, but also encouraging nonetheless. No matter how small or large the screen we’re working with, the ability to play bigtime movies is always a plus.

Upon asking if this device had a final build inside it, if we’re seeing what will be sold in the stores, we were told that no, this was not final, and that tweaks were continuing to be made as we spoke. One example is, perhaps, the fact that the phone wasn’t able to connect on T-Mobile’s 3G or 4G network (it’s final destination being 4G at release,) – OR, and more likely, it just wasn’t able to battle its way out of the Wifi invasion that was occurring in every room within 50 miles of the Orange County Convention Center. Regardless of the fact that the G2x’s software wasn’t fully cooked, it looked completely slick and ready to roll out.
We’re pumped up!
See our original unveiling post back [here] for a full spec sheet and all the info you’d love to know.
Im really excited for this one. Pure android experience without any gimmickry.
yes vanilla but no camera software not vanilla so ummmm updates could still be a problem besides why would it release with froyo when oems have gingerbread? and all that damn blout
They’re working on making 2.3 more compatible with dual cores. As of now, only tablets have apps that can really utilize the dual core technology and so that’s why they’re delaying it. So the version that’s going to come on this is going to be really not 2.3 that was released so long ago but some 2.3.x that plays nice with multi-core apps.
that doesnt make any sense. The N1 and NS are single core phones and both have 2.3.3.
There is no excuse to release a high end phone right now without 2.3.3
For that reason alone i will be skipping on this phone as I am worried about getting updates. 2.3.3 has already been out for 3-4 months, if the phone is “stock” as some people say it would get updates alot quicker.
Release date?
Price?
Inquiring minds want to know…
your guess is as good as mine. and my guess is in the $200 range in april 2011
Can you confirm that there is no notification light? I’ve yet to hear from someone who has held the US version confirm that there is/isn’t one.

i Really wish LG Used Retina Display or something because samsung has spoiled me with amoled and vga is jus down right ugly to me right now.
Well it’s either this or the HTC Pyramid but that thing is looking more like a myth than a reality. I’m tired of my beat up Mytouch 3g. Froyo runs horrible on it, sad to say. This, most likely is going to be the phone to upgrade to. LG is finally stepping up their game and well I’ve never experienced trouble with their products in the past so this should be an amazing experience especially since it’s running stock Android.
I like, but most people are correct. The HTC Evo 3D is coming with a dual core 1.2ghz and a 3D technology like the Nintendo DS(no glasses). It packs more punch, more tech, more Ram(16GB vs 8Gb) and a camera with 2 lenses (5mp each) that can shoot 3d and 2d photos and videos. So LG seems to be stepping up but still needs more tech. Especially since the Evo 3D WILL be running Gingerbread.

RAM 16gb vs 8gb? I think you’re mistaken. That’s the internal storage not the size of the RAM. No smartphone out now or releasing anytime soon has 8-16gb of RAM. Average laptops usually have 4-6gb of RAM, so I don’t see smartphones anytime soon encroaching 2gb RAM.
Btw, LG G2X is getting gingerbread update in the summer. No idea where you’re coming up with more tech, more punch quibbles. If you’re comparing a soon to be released (april 20th for the LG) against the unannounced HTC Evo 3D, I can surely make a case for waiting till next year for the ‘quad-core, 1200×800 res display, 6G, 10gb RAM, super duper phone. Try to be more realistic. As of April 20th the LG is up there as far as premium smartphones go.
He just confused the ram with the flash memory, and it has been ANNOUNCED. Also, when you quote someone you have to use their words he said it was a dual core not a quadcore.

Firstly, when did I quote someone? I was being sarcastic in saying if you have to wait for something newer and better, you’d might as wait till whenever/forever for that future tech that’ll trump what’s out now. Thus I said “quadcore, 1200×800, etc. etc.”.
Secondly, HTC EVO 3D hasn’t been given a release date. Just because they introduced what’ll come out doesn’t mean it’s out. kapeesh?
T-Mobile G2x is available for pre-order at cellHub.com for just $49.99 which is at the lowest price available in the market… T-Mobile G2x at $49.99…http: //www. cellhub.com /t-mobile-cell-phones/t-mobile-g2x-with-google-dark-ale.html I think it’s a mind-blowing offer
HTC Thunderbolt rocks too! • Memory*: 8 GB eMMC, 768 MB RAM • Expansion slot: 32 GB microSD™ card pre-installed • Processor: Qualcomm® MSM8655 1 GHz, Qualcomm MDM9600 Dual chip processor. 8mp camera in rear, 1.5mp camera front. The 3G network is most of New England, 4G available from most networks in some areas. HTC sense is cool too.
