The BLU R1 HD is the little $50 dollar phone that can. Most budget phone enthusiasts are already swearing by the things the phone can do, and coupled with Amazon’s Prime Exclusive deals, you can get the BLU R1 HD for the ridiculously low price of USD$50 – with ads on your lock screen. The phone has since then been rooted, so ads are no longer a problem. Now we have an announcement that the kernel code of the phone has been released, so developers can now start playing around with what custom software this phone can take.
To give you an idea of what your $50 dollars is buying, the BLU R1 HD sports an HD (720p) display in a handy 5-inch form factor. That is powered by a MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor supported by 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. That’s certainly not much, but considering you get 4G LTE connectivity on it, and you can expand storage to 64GB, and a usable 8MP/5MP camera combo – you’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal at USD$50.
Now with root access already gained, this means you can already up the level of what kind of apps you can install, and more importantly, get rid of Amazon’s annoying ads. But the release of the kernel will give BLU R1 HD users hope that at some point in time, they would be rocking a CyanogenMod custom ROM on it for better performance and everyday usage.
