It’s been a week or so since Samsung officially launched its newest phablet, the Galaxy Note 7, in the US. And now it’s India’s turn to have its official announcement, and of course along with it is the launch as well of the other Samsung products, specifically the new Gear VR, the Gear IconX wireless earphones and the Gear Fit 2 Fitness Tracker. All of these will soon be available in the Indian market, which is considered to be one of the fastest growing markets currently.
For the benefit of those who have been living under a rock for the past months or so, Samsung skipped on the 6 part for the new Galaxy Note in order to keep up with the flagship names, which is currently at Galaxy S7. So yes, we get the Galaxy Note 7. It has a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED Display with dual curved edges and is power by an octa-core Exynos 8890 processor. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, a 12MP main camera with Dual Pixel phase-detection autofocus and a 5MP front-facing camera as well.
The variant for India has a hybrid dual SIM card slot so for the second slot, you can use either another SIM or a microSD card, in case the 64GB storage isn’t enough for you. Three things that Samsung is harping about this new phablet is that it has an iris scanner, an improved S Pen (which is what makes a Note device stand out), and both the phablet and the S Pen are now waterproof.
The Galaxy Note 7 will be priced at INR 59,900 (around $8950) and you can pre-order it already by this month. It will become generally available starting September 2 and will have the black, gold, and silver variants. The Gear VR will cost INR 7,290 but only INR 1,990 if you order the Galaxy Note 7 together with it. The Gear IconX earphones will cost INR 13,490 while the Gear Fit 2 is at INR 13,990.
