From the mud-loving Galaxy XCover introduced in 2011 to the Galaxy XCover 2 released a couple of year later to the military-tough XCover 3 from last year, Samsung is launching a new variant. It’s not an XCover 4 yet but another XCover 3 variant that is already powered by Android 6.0 Marshmmallow. Believe it or not, more than a year later, the XCover 3 is still available in the market.
The 2015 model only runs Android KitKat 4.4 and we don’t remember it getting a taste of the Lollipop. The phone can be availed now with Android 6.0 out of the box already. The rugged smartphone is said to be a cheaper alternative to the Galaxy S6 Active but now it’s made more powerful with Marshmallow. Even before the S7 Active is revealed, you can get the Galaxy XCover 3 with the latest mobile OS so you know the smartphone is still up-to-date.
Specs of the Samsung Xcover 3 Value Edition are still the same: 4.5-inch WQVGA display, 1.2GHz quad-core chipset, 1.5GB RAM, 2000mAh battery, 8GB built-in storage, 5MP main camera, and a 2MP selfie shooter. The device remains to be rugged and water-resistant, thanks to its MIL-STD 810GB and IP67 and certifications.
No information yet on global market release but it’s now available in the Netherlands for only €228 ($259).

I bought the XCover 3 right at it’s launch. It had Kitkat originally. A few month later Samsung deployed an upgrade to Lollipop. This value edition seems to have almost the same specs than the original one. I hope Samsung will also make Marshmallow available for the original XCover3.
BTW, XCover 4 has been announced !
