EverythingMe is one of the more popular launcher apps available in the Google Play Store today. We’ve seen a number of versions already after going out of beta early last year and made officially available in global markets. We reviewed and recommended it because of its abilities to combine the Web and your homescreen seamlessly. We also noted how good it is that even Firefox chose the app and rebranded it as a Firefox Launcher for Android.

We only have good things to say about Everything.me so we’re surprised why the startup behind the app is shutting down. This Israeli startup is closing down the business even if the app already hit 15 million downloads and they received $35 million  as funds from a number of investors like SingTel Innov8, Horizons Ventures, Telefónica, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Mozilla.

The reason for shutdown? The developers and founders cannot find the perfect business model for them. Because of this shutdown, 36 employees already lost their jobs. We don’t have much details about this one but it’s quite surprising for a startup like this who received millions as investment and has reached millions of downloads already. Not a lot of apps reach that number but this one can be considered as successful.

Let’s hope that Everything.me devs will review their decisions about the shutdown.

  1. 15 Millions download, 4.4 Rating(from 400K rates), and they are shutting down because they can’t figure out how to make money? wow….

    • If you have a perfect product but nobody wants to pay for it, you can’t keep it going. You are going to have to pay these developers at one point… A good product alone is useless, what you need is product market fit.

      • they already had 35million dollars in hand(read the article.. duh..), they *only* need to figure out how to make sure that the money doesn’t just stops there. there are literally millions of apps surviving with a lot less money in hand. and.. ” nobody wants to pay for it, you can’t keep it going”. seriously? i could name at least 10 companies that make millions without their users having to pay for anything, and most of them started with a lot less money.

      • did you even read the article?
