We’re not expecting a new model from LG this IFA season since the Watch Urbane was only made available a few months ago. Even the G Watch R can still be considered an okay model because the LG Watch Urbane’s ROM can be ported to it and its WiFi can be enabled via a simple mod. We’re not really demanding for a new one because the Watch Urbane still looks pretty, classy, and stylish.
But you know LG, the South Korean giant always surprises the mobile industry with more stylish and premium versions of its products. The LG G4 has a special leather-back version aside from the basic model and this time, the G Watch Urbane now has a Luxe version. LG worked with REEDS Jewelers to come up with the premium limited edition of the smartwatch, complete with 23-karat gold and an alligator leather strap. The watch is stored in an exclusive and special piano-gloss lacquer case.
In the US, the LG Watch Urbane is available for $349 from Verizon and AT&T. This special edition Luxe is way more expensive at $1,200 when it starts shipping on October. It will come equipped with the same specs: 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, 512MB LPDDR2 RAM, 1.3-inch P-OLED Display screen, 320 x 320 pixel resolution, 245ppi, 4GB built-in memory, and a 410mAh battery. One of the few changes for the luxury version is the deployment clasp for a more fitted look, handcrafted leather band, and the 23-karat gold used in the LG Watch Urbane Luxe. Most watches use 18-k gold but the LG Watch Urbane Luxe’s gold is now harder and stronger.
This luxury version can very well compete with the other expensive smartwatches from Tag Heuer or the Helvetica 1 Mondaine. LG’s jump into the luxury smartwatch game makes the wearable device not just an extension of one’s mobile device but also an extension oneself as suggested by LG Mobile’s Vice President and Head of Marketing Communications Chris Yie. “This blending of craftsmanship and technology is a natural evolution of the smartwatch, which is becoming more of a lifestyle accessory than a piece of hardware. We think this is a good direction for wearables and we want to encourage this transformation”, Yie further said.
Only 500 limited edition watches will be made. Each one will have its serial number engraved for authenticity. You can place your orders at any REEDS store or at www.REEDS.com. Expect LG to show off this luxury smartwatch at the IFA this week in Berlin.
