Buick adds Android Auto system to 2016 LaCrosse, Regal

Looks like the Android Auto can be found in more vehicles next year as more car makers are giving support for the platform, as well as, for it’s Apple counterplay, CarPlay. Android Auto has a bigger advantage now because the Android market is bigger. Brands like Cadillac, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and Chevrolet have already announced some good news about Android Auto integration.

This week, we learn from General Motors that it will continue to use Android Auto infotainment systems across all brands. This includes future GMC and Buick vehicles. The 2016 models of LaCross and Regal from Buick will have CarPlay at launch but Android Auto version should be ready soon after. Android Auto function will be integrated with Buick’s IntelliLink system. Next in line are GMC’s 2016 models of Sierra, Yukon, and Canyon.

This is a big step for Buick to embrace connectivity of cars and smart devices. Buick’s Vice President Duncan Aldred said:

“Buick understands the importance of connectivity integration in everyday life and this new connection technology provides drivers with a smart and simple way to have all the conveniences of their mobile devices safely at their fingertips. It’s another step in building and implementing technology that consistently puts our customers first.”

Buick announced these information during the C3 Connected Car Conference in New York City earlier this week. The Buick vehicles will boast of an 8-inch touchscreen display to navigate Android Auto, OnStar 4G LTE connectivity, and access to two of its main features: Google Now and Google Maps.
