Rumors had been suggesting Huawei was planning to unveil a smartwatch during Mobile World Congress, and while we have yet to see the announcement, we have gotten a brief look at the watch. En route to Spain, Android Community spotted the watch on an unnamed person from Huawei. We weren’t close enough to get a super detailed image, however what we could see does fit in with the image that leaked earlier.
Basically, the Huawei option looks to be more of a fitness band, as opposed to a traditional smartwatch with full display. We are fairly certain we will be hearing more about this from Huawei soon enough, however we did see a bit more in terms of usage. The same unnamed person from Huawei was then seen messing with a phablet/tablet and the watch — seemingly syncing the two devices.
After the original image leak of the Huawei watch there was some talk of it being a prototype model. We had sort of hoped to believe that given the looks, but after seeing the same watch en route to MWC, we aren’t so sure that is the case. Well, that is unless they are planning to show how the watch evolved during the development process. Of course, that wouldn’t explain why it is still being worn and actively used.
meh, Smartwatches are a waste of time. If you’re gonna have a phone in your pocket most of the time, why do you need a ‘SmartWatch’? Not very Logical to me.
Another new smart watch to launch in February is the SmartQ Z-Watch, priced at $155 with one of the first sources in the U.S. to feature this new model is TabletMaxx
The SmartQ Z-Watch is made by Smart Devices, which won a 2013 CTIA E-Tech Award for innovation and now offers an updated model from the original which launched late last year and now features Android 4.4 that works with the iPhone and all Android phones with Android 4.0+ to handle phone calls and view texts and schedule.
Most Z-Watch specs compare to the upcoming Galaxy 2 watch, but is much more competitively priced; and the Z-Watch features an advanced 1Ghz processor, a long-lasting 300 mAh battery, and a high resolution color touchscreen display.
One key advantage includes a full-featured MP3 Player; as well as a Walking/Jogging Pedometer and sleep analyzer; and the ability to use the watch to play music while exercising and keeping walking/jogging stats, that combines the function of an iPod and fitness tracker into a standard watch device and can work with either regular earbuds or wireless Bluetooth headsets.
With the Z-Watch the same price point as the popular Pebble Watch, it has a lot more to offer — as the Pebble only features a monochrome non-touch display and a processor limited to 180Mhz. The Pebble also restricts a maximum of 8 Apps that can be installed.
TabletMaxx — is a U.S. reseller that carries the new edition of the SmartQ Z-watch and also includes a premium headphone set for MP3 player function as part of the package.
