It was back in August when Samsung announced the 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega would be heading to US carriers. Since that point we have seen the oversized smartphone launch with a few carriers including AT&T and US Cellular. And well, as of today the handset has been announced for another. The latest is MetroPCS and they will have the Galaxy Mega available beginning November 25.
MetroPCS will be offering the handset for “as low as” $349, which does not include any long term agreements. As for the fine print on the pricing, details coming from the carrier have the handset showing with a regular price of $499. To “celebrate the holiday season” they are offering a $100 instant rebate along with an additional $50 instant rebate for those who purchase the handset in a MetroPCS retail location.
Regardless of where you make the purchase, or how much you end up paying, the Galaxy Mega will be available with the unlimited talk and text plans which begin at $40 per month. That plan also includes unlimited data with the first 500MB at high-speed. Additionally, the high-speed data can be upped to 2.5GB or unlimited for $50 or $60 per month.
As for the handset itself, the Galaxy Mega has a 6.3-inch (1280 x 720) Super Clear LCD display and is powered by a dual-core 1.7GHz processor. The handset also has 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 1.5GB of RAM, 3200 mAh battery, 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera and 8 megapixel rear-facing camera. The Galaxy Mega is running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and also sporting many Samsung specific features.
Those Samsung specifics include Air View for previews, Multi Window for multi-tasking, WatchON to have the phone serve as a remote control and more. With that, those curious about the Galaxy Mega and considering a purchase may benefit from our earlier published review.
