BlueStacks has been offering Windows users the ability to run Android apps for some time now. In fact, they launched in beta way back in March of last year. Of course, since that point we have seen numerous improvements. Not the least of which is additional apps. When they first launched on Windows, the apps were rather limited and now they are touting more than 750,000. And on that note, Bluestacks has recently been optimized for Windows 8 tablets including the Microsoft Surface Pro.
The launch has come under the promo of being able to “Get Your Apps Back. This seems to be a play on the fact that, at the moment, there are not a ton of touch-optimized apps available in the store for Windows 8 users. The good news here, the BlueStacks solution is available as of today — and it is both free to download and also free to use. For those not as familiar with BlueStacks, this means you will be able to run any Android app on your Windows 8 tablet.
The setup process is simple enough, visit the Get Your Apps Back website (link below) and click the green download button. From that point it is just a matter of finishing the download, clicking your way through the installation process and beginning to use Android apps alongside your Windows 8 apps. Basically, BlueStacks will turn your Surface Pro (or other Windows 8 tablet) into an Android tablet.
While this thought will eventually change as more Windows 8 apps come available, this could be a nice solution for those looking for that one particular app they want and/or need to feel complete. Otherwise, BlueStacks is also available for Windows 7 as well as Mac OS X and is now touting more than 5 million downloads. Bottom line, it seems like quite a few users have at least checked out the ability to use Android apps on your computer.
