Samsung has announced Galaxy Gear support for the Galaxy S 4, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III smartphones. The smartwatch support will be a part of the Premium Suite update, which will also have your handset bumped to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. According to details coming from Samsung, this update will be arriving over the "coming weeks."
The catch with that, which Samsung was quick to point out, the Premium Suite update "timing and features vary by carrier." They further mention the updates will begin today, but as we often see, some carriers will take longer than others in terms of these updates. Basically despite Samsung offering the details, you still need to hear the 'when' from your carrier.
Along with the smartwatch support and Android 4.3, the update will also add in some features that Samsung had on the Galaxy S 4. There was mention of an updated Easy Mode, Multi Window and advanced camera options coming to the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III smartphones. All three of the handsets will also be getting KNOX, which is a setup that is designed to give users the "confidence that their device is suitable for use in the workplace."
There was also mention of the Galaxy S 4 mini and Galaxy Mega getting support for the Galaxy Gear. The timeline here was a bit more open and according to Samsung, will be arriving in the "coming months." The Galaxy S4 mini was recently announced for the US market. The device will be coming to AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and US Cellular, though the carrier specifics are still on the lighter side in terms of release dates.
