After being, frankly, very impressed at the announcement of Motorola’s first Android smartphone yesterday, we caught up with the CLIQ (aka Motorola DEXT) afterwards for a hands-on demo.  Motorola were being coy with the handset, preferring to run through its capabilities themselves rather than allow a free-for-all in our own hands, but we did get enough of a play to ascertain that the QWERTY keyboard is tactile and well built, while the 3.1-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen is bright, responsive and – thanks to the hard glass cover – feels great.

It also seems to be quick, too, though there’s no telling how close to production-status the firmware is on these demo models.  Given the CLIQ won’t land on T-Mobile USA until Q4 this year, there’s probably still some work to be done, but despite the fact that Motorola have used the same sort of 528MHz Qualcomm processor as can be found on HTC’s recent Android handsets, we had no problems with speed or responsiveness.

We’re waiting for the full hands-on image gallery of the Motorola CLIQ to finish processing, and will update with that when it’s ready.  For now, enjoy the video demos and check out this post for more detail on the CLIQ itself.

Thanks Chris! - That was a very nice sneak peek

Not bad, not bad at all.. it seemed to be very FAST and I love the Picture Gallery

But It's just not attractive to me, but eh!

(I'll keep my eyes and ears open)
  2. motorola is comming back with a bang! I think this is going to be huge!
  3. wow the UI is reallly good. very intuitive, I'd love to have that running on my G1 as far as the hardware, its not that really eye catching to me but it is decent. I do love the glowing light at the top!! and the glowing M on the back of the slide keyboard

I agree, I believe this is what motorola needs. it'll be a big deal for most ppl. I'm still getting my hero nonetheless
  5. Hopefully the CLIQ's ROM will be ripped and the MOTOBLUR UI will find its way to HTC phones.

And given the CLIQ's superior performance to HTC handsets, hopefully that means Android has some performance tweaking to come.
  6. hopefully they didnt let people handle the phone because they are making tweaks to the native apps or something. because this just seems like widgets added on to a theme
  7. Wow, with this new innovation and feature set...makes me not regret the move to android! Very cool concept, and the phone itself doesn't look shabby at all....despite the slightly smaller screen size.
Was an iphone user for awhile, sad to say I got bored with it. There's only gonna be one iphone.....there will be many, many androids handsets to come!
  8. i love how everything is integrated. I wish the G1 can do that! The phone actually looks good, im not down with the D-pad, and the keyboard doesn't look as good as the G1's but i think I could get used to it, i liked the white click, the screen look brilliant and it looks fast, i am so anxious for all these new android hand sets to come out!
  9. Anyone know the release date for tmobile is? and pricing?
