ZTE was originally showing the Grand S smartphone back in January during CES. Early details had the handset coming to the US market later in the year and that was then pushed back to sometime in 2014. Well, it looks like the original ‘later this year’ timeframe ended up being the more accurate here. This morning ZTE has come forward with some Grand S release details for those in the US market.
The handset will be available for pre-order beginning on October 5th. ZTE will have it available by way of Amazon and “other channels” and those looking to make a purchase should be prepared to shell out $399.99. The model that is coming will bring support for GSM, which means you will be looking towards AT&T or T-Mobile for service.
As ZTE had been touting back in January, the Grand S is on the thin side. It measures in at 0.27-inches and according to ZTE, that makes it the “slimmest smartphone available in the United States.” Aside from the thickness, the handset has a 5-inch FHD display at 1920 x 1080 and 440 ppi and is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB of RAM.
The display also has scratch-resistant glass for protection. Rounding out the specs is 16GB of internal storage, 1780 mAh battery, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, 13 megapixel rear-facing camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Other than the thickness of 0.27 inches, the remaining measurements are as follows; 5.59 x 2.72-inches.
Anyway, while we have a few days before those pre-orders arrive, those considering a purchase may benefit from some of our earlier coverage which included some hands-on time.
[Update] In addition to the Grand S, ZTE will also have the nubia 5 available for pre-order on the 5th of October. The ZTE nubia 5 will be priced at $449.99 and similar to the Grand S will bring GSM support. Other specs for the nubia 5 includes a 5-inch FHD display at 1920 x 1080 with a ppi of 443 and quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB of RAM.
The remaining specs for the nubia 5 include Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, 2300 mAh battery, 16GB of internal storage, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus, an LED flash and Sapphire Lens. That being said, just like the Grand S, the nubia 5 pre-orders will be with Amazon and other retailers.
