China-based manufacturers ZTE recently announced that they were bringing a premium phone with flagship level specs to the US market – that is in the shape of the new ZTE Axon smartphone. ZTE has been bringing its phones over to the US to middling success, but it’s not about to give up on that American dream, the Axon is proof of that. And what’s this? We find the ZTE Axon now certified by China’s TENAA, which can mean only one thing – it’s pretty close to shipping out to market.

ZTE has already made the smartphone available for pre-order in the US via its online store, and rumors say it will be available for the Canadian market as well. But with the TENAA certification, we can also surmise that the smartphone might also be made available for ZTE’s home market. That will make it a bit easier for people in Asia to get their hands on the device.

And it’s such a wonderfully-specced device as well. Allow us to remind you that this baby will boast of a QuadHD (2560×1440) display powered by an octa-core 2.0Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. That will be ably supported by 4GB RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. With the Qualcomm chipset, you also get its proprietary quick charging code for charging the 3,000mAh battery. It also features a dual lens main camera – 13MP and 2MP – for those 3D-like effects, and an 8MP selfie shooter.

One curious detail from the TENAA certification documents is the presence of what seems to be a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, right below the dual-lens camera. We’re not sure if this is a “China only” feature, or if it will appear in the North American models as well. Pricing for the unit in the US is USD$450 off contract, pretty low for a flagship phone.
