We noted the possibility of an Axon 7 Mini as a souped down version of the Axon 7 introduced last May. We said it would be smaller with lower specs and definitely would be more affordable. Looks like we’ll have to wait for a while for the Mini version as the flagship model has just been released in the US. It’s been only a year since the Chinese OEM launched the Axon Pro but its follow-up, the Axon 7, has been getting positive reviews lately.

We’ve known about the Axon 7 for months but it’s only now that it’s available in the United States. ZTE has promised to bring premium quality even in affordable units simply because the company can. With Axon 7, the OEM has won awards because of its cool design, impressive audio quality, and how it fits in your hand. At $399, the phone is worth your money because of the same high specs that can be found in more expensive, premium flagship phones.

As the second offering from the Axon line and as a follow-up to last year’s Axon Pro, the Axon 7 is like the BMW of phones. It’s not expensive but ZTE partnered with a BMW Group company known as Designworks to build the smartphone. The result is a good-looking handset that is fast–made possible by the Snapdragon 820 and Adreno 530 GPU from Qualcomm. Sound quality isn’t compromised because ZTE used Hi-Fi audio chips, added front-facing stereo speakers, and improved the audio software.

The ZTE Axon 7 is compatible with VR apps as made possible by the Daydream VR platform by Google. Phone is also equipped with a fingerprint scanner so you know it’s safe, private, and secure. When it comes to imaging, there’s a 20 megapixel camera with dual-image stabilization. The phone can also record 4K videos and capture high-quality images. Some other features include slow motion capabilities, long exposure, and LIVE photo.
