The Xiaomi Mi Box Android TV is expected to launch this coming October in the United States. We have no doubts about its arrival in the country but we’re not sure when exactly or for how much. We’ve been looking forward to that set-top-box that will rival the several streaming devices we’ve seen and tried in the past and looks like it’s coming very soon.
The Mi Box though is said to rival Roku directly. This Android TV device brings consumer video streaming closer to more people because of its affordability and ease-of-use. No, we’re not making the Mi Box up because we’re already got our feature on it as early as May. There’s mo mention of the price at all but now the unit is said to have been spotted in the wild.
Someone noticed the device while in Walmart, snapped up a pic, and then posted on Twitter. We’re guessing it was an honest mistake and an employee didn’t know that it’s not yet time to display the gadget. Of course, the mobile industry gets interested because it doesn’t look fake at all. In fact, the device pictured on the box matches the Mi Box we featured a few weeks ago.
Should we expect the $69 Mi Box soon? Definitely. With the Android TV device, you can expect an 8GB storage, 2GB RAM, 4K support at 60fps, and voice control. Support for the usual streaming services like VUDU, Sling, Netflix, or Hulu will also be ready. In the near future, you may be able to use it for Android gaming. A game controller is believed to be in the works right now so let’s wait and see.

So, with that little bit of memory, it’s basically a Chromecast that will also run Kodi, WatchTCM, Amazon Instant Video, and a few other apps that don’t cast. Too bad it doesn’t have enough memory or USB ports.
