While other companies are busy packing more features and upgrading specs to new smartwatches, there are brands who are focused on how to make analog watches that can track health and fitness. In case you didn’t know, there is such a thing. There are digital and analog fitness trackers. We’re more familiar with digital ones but the analog wearables also deserve our attention for many reasons.

We first heard of Withings last year when Google partnered with them for the Fit Developers Challenge. Earlier this year, it added Android support to its Activite and Activite Pop. Before the year ends, the health wearables company is introducing the Activite Steel.

We can’t really say it’s a full fitness-tracking smartwatch because it’s more of an analog watch. By that you can expect an analog timepiece complete with hands but with the convenience of smart features like tracking sleep patterns, swim laps, and number of steps taken. The Withings Health Mate is a great companian app for this wearable device because you choose what activity to show on the sub-dial. Tracking swim laps is also possible because of the Activite Steel’s 50 meter water-resistance.

Making this Activite Steel a more attractive fitness timepiece is the price. It’s only $170 which is more affordable than the recent ones made available in the market. Of course, they have more specs and are more hi-tech but this one from Withings can last up to eight months. Instead of the average one-day battery life for smartwatches, the Activite Steel can last for months because it runs on a normal watch battery simply because it’s more analog.

Withings Activite Steel is available from the brand’s online store. The original Activite and Activite Pop are also still available from the company.
