While top OEMs and mobile carriers are racing towards full 5G connectivity, there are those interested in improving WiFi. This kind of wireless Internet connectivity still has more room for improvements. It can still be reliable and faster than the fastest WiFi connection today. It may take a while but the WiFi, 802.11ac Wave 2 is now in the process of certification.

This new WiFi technology is expected to improve range and speed of wireless Internet usually used at home, offices, and establishments in almost every country. Wi-Fi Alliance certified the first 802.11ac only last January 2014 but more than two years later, the Wave 2 is being geared for certification. Hopefully, this will also start the delivery of new network adapters and routers.

Advancement in Wi-Fi technology is always welcome especially since not all households and not all countries have ultra fast Internet connection. There are still many people who do not have decent access to the Web. With the Wave 2 routers, we’re hoping more wireless devices will be able to take advantage of them and Internet providers will be determined to expand Internet connectivity.

What makes the Wave 2 different is the mU-MIMO. This Multi-user Multiple Input Multiple Output is more efficient in multitasking and managing several wireless devices at once. It’s the old MIMO being upgraded to avoid delays or latency when loading webpages or streaming games and other media content.

This new Waze 2 and MU-MIM0 technologies are designed to support 160 MHz channels and to allow seamless, fast, and clear communication with multiple devices simultaneously. All these and more will make our current WiFi connections faster by three times. In line with this, processors from several manufacturers like Marvell, MediaTek, Broadcom, Qualcomm, and Quantenna have already been approved to support WiFi 802.11ac Wave 2.
