Samsung has been hyping about the Vulkan graphics API since the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge came out, saying how much the new OpenGL standard would improve high-graphics mobile gaming. The problem is that while Vulkan has been around for a while now, there are only a few games designed to take advantage of it. This is why Samsung and Google are bundling over USD$400 worth of games for the users of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, for people to actually start experiencing what Vulkan can do.

What is Vulkan? Well, in very simple terms, Vulkan reduces CPU bottlenecks in devices because it optimizes the way your device uses multiple CPUs. This leads to increased gaming performance and more vivid graphics because the CPU load has been lowered and the GPU performance increased. So it just gives you better a gaming experience all around. That said, games need to use the Vulkan API in their code for this to work.

The Samsung Galaxy Game Pack includes Need for Speed No Limits, Hit, Vainglory, and Olympus Rising – four games which are already designed to take advantage of Vulkan. The other games in the bundle include Nonstop Knight, Empire: Four Kingdoms, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, MARVEL Contest of Champions, Asphalt 8: Airborne, Hungry Shark World, Angry Birds Pop Bubble Shooter, Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, Sims City Free Play, and Clash of Kings.

We hope that more and more games take advantage of Vulkan technology, so that the API becomes a standard in high performance gaming. As it is, we need to understand that Samsung and Google (because Vulkan was developed by Google) are pioneering the use of Vulkan, that is why bundles like this exist. The game pack will be officially available to Galaxy Note 7 users beginning August 20 through January 31, 2017.
