Virgin America Red Android

Virgin America always has something in store for passengers. It’s one of the best airlines today that offer the latest in in-flight entertainment. There’s the Red service that includes more content, music, movies, maps, chat, good ordering, power outlets, live television, and of course, WiFi. The airline has been very consistent in providing the best entertainment experience for the loyal passengers.

The airline has just announced an updated platform called the Red Beta. It’s an Android-based program that allows improvements, personalization, expansion, and connection in new ways. This Red Beta platform will arrive together with the new hi-res touch monitors on three Virgin America aircraft. The company has partnered with Panasonic to bring these enhancements on the Red in-flight entertainment platform.

Frequent travelers will be quick to notice the changes. There are new capacitative touch screens that allow swipe and pinch functionality. Storage capacity has been upgraded as well so the Red platform can do more and save more more content such as movies and full TV shows like House of Cards (Seasons 1 and 2), The Walking Dead (S 1-5), and Orange is the New Black (S 1-2). With bigger storage, more interactive games like Pac-Man and Asteroids from ATARI and enhanced maps can be loaded. Some content also feature surround-sound audio for a better listening experience using a pair of headphones in-flight.

Panasonic has supplied EcoV2 monitors for a full capacitive touch experience. The new displays can support 720p resolution, faster HD imaging rendering, and improved quality. And as for the surround-sound listening experience, audio content are being encoded by Dysonics to be converted to 3D sound. This technology makes Virgin American the first to offer such audio experience.

This Surround Sound will be featured on some content on the classic Red and the new beta Red platforms. Movies like Run All Night and Insurgent and the latest Games of Thrones season 5 episodes already have the surround sound audio.

Virgin America’s Director of Cabin Systems, Product Design & Innovation Ken Bieler is proud of this developments, he said “Although travelers will immediately notice some changes like capacitive touch screens, a lot more content, and enhanced maps and videogames, we’re really excited about the longer-term capabilities the new Android-based software foundation enables.”

With the new Android-based platform, developers can quickly improve and innovate on the system of the airline. From phones to watches to homes to cars, looks like Android is ready to take on ever the airline travel game. The new Red system is described by Virgin America as something that will set a new standard in the industry. Virgin American plans to bring Red Beta to 18 aircraft before 2015 ends.
