A few weeks ago we featured a leaked Samsung flip phone. Codenamed Veyron, the device was listed on AnTuTu which meant the smartphone is coming very soon. It’s said to be a premium clamshell phone that’s unlike the other flip phones from the South Korean tech giant. We were thinking it’s the Galaxy Folder 2 but that one was announced in China only last week.
The two look similar but the phone model SM-W2017 phone is said to feature a 4.2-inch Super AMOLED screen, 4GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, 12MP rear facing camera, 5MP front-facing shooter, 64GB onboard storage, USB Type-C port, and NFC among others. Those are high-end specs already for an Android device. As with most phones today, there’s a rumored fingerprint sensor plus heart rate monitor. If the NFC connectivity is true, then the Veyron could also have Samsung Pay. We can line it up then with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series.
We have no idea if this will be a China-only model but it should be available for all since the NFC and Samsung Pay features are attractive to the ladies–the target group looking for more convenient ways to go shopping.
We also have no information how many mobile users still want the flip phone style but we know there are people who still like the idea of flipping open or closing their smartphones. It has a specific market but we don’t know if that’s already significant.
