Two of last year’s flagship devices, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5, are getting significant updates for those who are using Verizon as their carrier. The software update brings new features like the Barcode Beaming Service to help improve recognition response when it comes to scanning barcodes and the likes. There are also new ways of using your contacts, as well as a new addition to People Edge for the Galaxy S6 edge+ specifically.

The Barcode Beaming Service helps you easily scan things like digital coupons, membership and loyalty cards, concert tickets, and even library cards, regardless of the brightness levels and screen glare. This will of course only work if you have the necessary, supported apps like Samsung Pay or Beep’n’Go. For the Galaxy S6 edge+ specifically, you’ll see a new feature called OnCircle to your People Edge section, which lets you add doodles, short videos, emoticons to send to your fellow Edge users. The Amazon Music app has been removed but soon they will add an Amazon widget for quicker access.

As for both devices, there will be three new ways to use your Contacts. You can now share your profile with other users or through other social networks through “profile sharing”, and it can also include images. “Simple sharing” meanwhile lets you share files with other users, and it can be up to 1GB, so it can actually be a movie or a TV show episode or an entire music album. “Event sharing” lets you add contacts to events you schedule on your calendar, and they will also be able to add their videos and images to the event as well.

Before you update, make sure your Galaxy S6 edge+ or Galaxy Note 5 are fully charged or you’re connected to a power source. You can update through WiFi or through your Verizon Wireless connection, but better use the former if you don’t want it to eat up your data allocation.
