Motorola announced the Moto G earlier this morning and as a lead in for the event, there was some talk of Kit Kat on the Moto X. There wasn’t anything specific offered in terms of carriers, however Motorola did say Android 4.4 Kit Kat would be arriving for Moto X users in a “matter of weeks.” Naturally, that depends of successful tests and carrier approval.
The US carriers haven’t stepped up with any Moto X Kit Kat news in the time following, however soak test invites have recently been sent to select Verizon Moto X users. The invites are for members of the Motorola Feedback Network and are “inviting owners of the Moto X on Verizon to participate in an early preview of a new software release.”
The key here, Motorola hasn’t said what the update contains. And on top of that, those participating in the Motorola Feedback Network are unable to speak publicly. Sure, there could be some leaks in time, but officially, that group agrees to “not post any details or information about this on any public sites.”
Motorola has used this soak tests for smaller updates in the past, however given the coincidence of timing with the news from this morning — many are hoping this means Kit Kat. Time will tell whether that is an accurate guess, and otherwise, with a rollout time of a “matter of weeks” it sounds like we will know one way or another soon enough.
If they don’t just give it up, I’ll root and 4.4 ROM it anyway (like so many of us)
