No official announcement yet but according to a recent document leak, Verizon will soon be adding $20 to your bill if you want to upgrade your phone. Every phone that will be upgraded will be more expensive beginning April 4. Sadly, even those that have paid off an old unit and are upgrading to a new phone will see the fee increase.

We’ll just have to wait for the Big Red to confirm the image shared by MacRumors. This leaked chart doesn’t look fake so Verizon subscribers should take note of this change. The mobile carrier hiking the prices could also mean business isn’t doing good or maybe it’s just about time for a price hike. Verizon isn’t being too generous these days and has even stopped offering new unlimited data plans.

Verizon upgrade fee

The memo says a “$20 upgrade fee will be charged on all device payment and retail price upgrades” starting next week. If you’re about to avail a phone through the iPhone Upgrade Program at Apple Store or a Device Payment Annual Upgrade, you will need to shell out addittional $20. It’s the same for upgrades to device payment and retail price. The $40 fee for a 2-year upgrade won’t change if you have your own phone so there won’t be any charge.

Here’s to hoping this is an April Fool’s Joke.

  1. From what I can tell, if you do the new every two (which I believe is going away), you only pay the current $40. This appears to be for those that do it through either the installment plan or purchase their phones at full price, which I feel is complete BS. Wow.
