If you caught the first season of Lifetime channel’s UnReal, a fictional show that shows the ugly side of reality competition shows (think The Bachelor), then you probably can’t wait till Season 2 (if you liked the first one). The show’s producers may be kind of nervous if people will still tune in, so they apparently hired a viral marketing company to come up with something to promote the show and they ended up with the world’s first automated selfie stick.

Now if you’re familiar with the show and if you watch the promo video for the “product”, you will probably be left scratching your head as to what this has to do with the show. The video shows a woman going around various places with this weird looking selfie stick, taking endless selfies and interacting with strangers. Only in the last few seconds do we even get a glimpse of one of the show’s stars, and it still doesn’t connect with it.

But anyway, for those who actually love selfie sticks, this would have been a dream come true for you. It is battery-powered and has a button to extend and retract the stick, whenever you need it or when you need to stow it in your bag. It even has two tiny fans to help you give that wind-blown look, although they’re too small to actually blow on a few strands of your hair. And it also has slide out beauty lights to help you take pictures in low-light situations.

A product that sounds this absurd has to be a marketing gimmick. But as to what it actually means to the show, we have yet to find out.
