Two years ago, Ultimate Speakers, makers of quality audio accessories, released their Boom Bluetooth speaker, and it was pretty impressive back then. But now, with a whole gamut of speakers coming out every month, it’s hard to impress saturated users, and also to sell one that is more expensive than most. And so UE has now released the second generation of their Boom speaker, and it’s looking to make the cost worth your while.

The UE Boom 2 now has longer range, higher volume capacity, longer battery life, and more rugged features. If before the source device can just be 50 feet away, the new version can keep up with your connected smartphone or tablet for up to 100 feet. The volume has also been cranked up by 25% more, while battery life is claimed to be at 15 hours while playing. The IPX rating has also been improved and is now at IPX7 so it can handle being soaked in water up to one meter for 30 minutes.

The UE Boom 2 is made of fabric and sturdy rubber and still has the same tubular shape. It can fit into a bike’s bottle holder but also has a ring on the bottom so you can have a lanyard attached to it. You can also pair it with a second UE speaker through their app, and it can either be another Boom device or any of the recently released UE speakers, like the UE ROLL Speakers.

The colors of the UE Boom 2, like its predecessor, tend to be more on the bold side rather than the simple and understated, with colors like bright blue and green. It will be sold for $199.99 and will be available in the US and selected European and Asian countries later this month.
