There are still some hugely popular apps that were holding out on adapting the Material Design guidelines that Google introduced last year. Maybe some wanted to “rebel” or maybe others didn’t know what to do with it in terms of applying it to their product. But then maybe some like one of the most popular productivity apps Todoist, just wanted to get it right and bring something more to the table. So, today, they gave a preview as to what users can expect from the updated Todoist app that will be coming soon.

The developers not only decided to adapt Material Design, but they decided to rebuild it based on the visual guidelines, as well as how users “were actually using the app”. As a result, we can expect a brand new look and improved functionality for the app when the update is finally rolled out, hopefully over the next few days or weeks. They have given a preview though of what it will look like, and we almost mistook it for the Mailbox for Android (by Dropbox) app, and that is not necessarily a bad thing, as Mailbox has been one of the best designed email apps out there.

But other than the Material Design “facelift”, other features you can expect include personalization of your to-do list using color themes and an avatar. There will also be an accessible quick-add icon so that you don’t need to go through so many steps when adding an idea or a to-do. There will also be a “powerfully intelligent date parser” which is the thing that reminded us of Mailbox. It will recognize both complex deadlines and recurring dates as well. You will also be able to swipe to complete or to change the date, add sub-tasks while adding more tasks, and add collaborators while creating projects, among others.

Hopefully, by the time you read this, the update should have rolled out to your device. If not, you’ve waited this long for Todoist to update to Material Design, you can wait a little longer.
