The Android team officially announced a security update for Stagefright last August and we learned that Nexus updates would come monthly. First one was released last month and as promised, a new one is ready for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop build LMY48M. All these Nexus devices are getting the said update: Nexus 9, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 6, Nexus 5, and the Nexus 4.
With the software update, you can finally update your own Nexus with a security patch and a bunch of other new changes–most of which are security related. Google is serious with adding Android Security enhancements. It’s the first monthly update and we’re glad that the search giant did not forget. In the next few days, we hope to hear from Motorola, Samsung, and LG.
T-Mobile has not made an official announcement yet but our friends over at XDA Developers and some tech websites are already talking about it. Android security update should be ready soon enough as promised. Perhaps this update will be the last one before the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is released but we’ll just be more patient for that one. If not OTA, expect for factory images to appear first.
This one is interesting to note because a pair of new Nexus phones are said to be unveiled end of September. Google could already be gearing up for the big software update for new Nexus models and before the fluffy Marshmallow takes over the scene so let’s just wait and see.
