Putting an end to the rumors, T-Mobile has confirmed the Nexus 5 availability date. It looks like the rumors were partially true. The Nexus 5 will be available on November 20th. That is the date the handset will arrive in retail stores and with select dealers. T-Mobile will also have the Nexus 5 available online and that date is a bit earlier.
The online availability date is set for November 14th. Along with the availability dates, T-Mobile has also offered the more important part — the pricing. Those choosing to grab the Nexus 5 direct from T-Mobile will need a downpayment of $41.99 and 24 monthly payments of $17. The monthly payments would total $408 and adding in the downpayment would bring the total to $449.99.
This is obviously a premium in comparison to what you would be paying if you purchased the Nexus 5 from the Play Store. That price is $349, which means you are spending about a $100 in order to get the monthly payments. The better deal would be to grab the handset from the Play Store, but having the option to spend less up front will likely be attractive to quite a few — especially as the money tightens as we get into the holiday shopping season.
Of course, regardless of where you make the purchase, the handset will be the same in terms of specs. The Nexus 5 is the first to run Android 4.4 Kit Kat and sports a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 at 445ppi) display with a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 2300 mAh battery and 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization.
T-Mobile also began accepting pre-orders for the Nexus 7 with LTE. The pre-order page notes a shipping date of November 20th and the tablet is available with no money down and 24 monthly payments of $17.
Will the Google version of the Nexus 5 have wireless calling?
