The issue surrounding Binge On isn’t over and it seems that T-Mobile CEO John Legere won’t stop just yet. After several talks and complaints about the carrier’s supposed “data throttling”, Legere replied and hit back at the bashers last week. The saga continues as the outspoken executive posts an open letter to consumers about the Binge On offer. For Legere and the rest of T-Mobile execs, they’re all for advancing the interests of the consumers.

That is why the Un-Carrier program was introduced more than two years ago. Ever since the Un-Carrier approach was announced, several moves and offerings have been given. The most recents ones include the Binge On free video streaming service, Un-carrier Unwrapped as a holiday gift-giving promo, JUMP! ON Demand deals, and several exclusive deals. All these promos are targeted for the consumers who want to make the most of their hard-earned money. According to Legere, they are alwausys after the consumer’s best interests and so they don’t understand why the video streaming service and their “mobile optimization” is such an issue. Consumers get more for free, he says.

Legere reiterated these words:

T-Mobile is a company that absolutely supports Net Neutrality and we believe in an open and free Internet. We want to continue to innovate and bring creative new benefits to market for all of our customers. That is who we are. It’s what we do. It will never change.

He noted that Binge On was invented for customers to stretch their data plan without having to pay more dollars. As if the objectives of the program are not clear enough, the CEO shared that this is an important innovation in the industry. However, there is confusion because of what others are saying. In his open letter, Legere wrote down what Binge On really is all about. Here are the highlights:

• What is Binge On?
Binge On is a FREE benefit given to all T-Mobile customers. It is and always has been a feature that helps you stretch your data bucket by optimizing ALL of your video for your mobile devices.

• Two key parts of Binge On:
1. T-Mobile uses proprietary techniques to attempt to detect all video, determine its source, identify whether it should be FREE and finally adjust all streams for a smaller/handheld device. For data to last longer, streamed video is delivered in DVD quality from 480p or higher.

2. Binge On gives FREE data that doesn’t hit one’s data bucket when used for streaming especially from the supported video services. Right now, there are 38 partners with more than 50 to be added in the next few weeks.

• How do I get Binge On?
Every T-Mobile customer has Binge On already turned on. Legere pointed out that “everyone has it from day 1”. However, it can be turned on or off depending on the customer.

Legere isn’t apologetic that he’s been very vocal and animated when expressing his thoughts. In his letter, he apologized though for “offending EFF and its supporters”. He still hopes to sit down with the EFF to discuss the matter.

The CEO ended the missive with a hashtag: #wewontstop

He explained what T-Mobile is all about now: “it’s about breaking the mold, eliminating the status quo and finding new and better ways to give consumers what they want”. And yes, obviously, the carrier, led by the CEO will only work and keep improving. They won’t stop doing these three things: listening to customers, eliminating pain points, and fighting hard for wireless consumers.
