An all-out search for a man who allegedly stole a Droid smartphone in Silicon Valley yesterday  had three law enforcement agencies and a sheriff’s helicopter out in full force. Apparently the Android device was taken from a pedestrian while out in Palo Alto last night.

According to the San Jose Mercury News the perpetrator asked if he could “borrow” the victim’s phone. Once in his hands, the man pocketed the phone and rode off on his bicycle. A police officer on duty chased the suspect, on foot, until the Droid-stealing thief managed to escape through an apartment complex. The police then set-up a perimeter to catch the assailant. No word on whether or not the Droid thief was ever caught. Nor was there any word on which Droid device it was, but if it was the new Motorola Droid Pro, I think anyone could understand the strong desire (and police overkill) to get the device back in their hands.
