Seems like there’s a big issue with Lollipop users about Google tweaking the usually generic “silent mode” in Android 5.0. With Lollipop, you get a “no notifications whatsoever” mode and you get what is called “Priority mode”. After all the discussions (you should see the reddit thread via the source link), some people would just really want one “silent mode” on their phones. That’s what SoundHUD tries to bring.

SoundHUD is an app based on an earlier app called Noyze, whose idea is to basically it easier to control volume levels on your device. The selling point is that it adds a simple way to get silent mode back on Lollipop. Noyze was discontinued and taken off the Google Play Store for copyright infringements. The developer of SoundHUD took out all the infringing elements and that’s how we got SoundHUD.

The app is very much Material Design-infused. You can have a choice between controlling stuff from an extended volume panel, or a status bar overlay, or just a line at the top of the screen. Then the app lets you tweak some customization elements – like colors, timeout length, and a long-press option that allows you to run a specific app from the volume rocker.

Pretty cool stuff. If you want to give it a spin, you can try out the app free for two weeks. After the trial period, it costs USD$1.49 to unlock.
