UK carrier EE has yet to make an official announcement, however a leaked advertisement suggests the carrier will be offering a free Sony Smartwatch 2 for those who pre-order the Sony Xperia Z1. The Z1 is perhaps still better known as the Honami and Sony is expected to announce the handset at an event on September 4th. We have yet to see anything that suggests this is a Sony offer (as opposed to an EE offer), however if that happens to be the case, we would expect to hear a bit more tomorrow.
At this time the free Sony Smartwatch 2 offer appears to be only for those who pre-order the Sony Xperia Z1 through EE. The Smartwatch 2 was announced by Sony way back in June and was shown to have features including a 1.6-inch display with a resolution of 220 x 176. The watch will also have an IP57 certification for protection against dust and water.
Some of the other goodies include Bluetooth 3.0 for connectivity and compatibility with devices running Android 4.0 or later. In addition to pairing with your smartphone and offering alerts for incoming messages, the Smartwatch 2 will also be able to run Sony smartwatch apps from the Google Play Store.
If nothing else, this seems like a decent enough deal for someone that may have already been considering the purchase of an Xperia Z1 with EE. Basically, this could be enough to shift you from maybe, to actually buying. Otherwise, while still rumor, the Sony Xperia Z1 is expected to arrive with a 5-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 3000 mAh battery and 20 megapixel rear-facing camera.
As a reminder, Android Community will be live on-site in Berlin to bring the latest news coming from Sony and out of IFA.
