The Sony Xperia X Compact is getting a slight upgrade, at least, its Japanese version. NTT DoCoMo has just listed the Xperia phone that is already IP68-rated. This means the smartphone is water-resistant but not totally waterproof. The enhanced Xperia X Compact is only ready in Japan and we’re not expecting it to be sold in other countries because Sony sometimes limits the feature. For example, the US version isn’t getting a fingerprint scanner in the US. However, a quick hack can enable it.
We’re not sure if the European and American variants of the X Compact will be that water- and dust-resistant but it’s a “Compact” phone so it should be ready for such.
The IP68-certified Sony Xperia X Compact will be available beginning next month in Japan. To review, it will be equipped with a 4.6-inch display, 720p resolution, 3GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 2700mAh battery, 32GB onboard storage, and a 23MP camera.
No information on pricing in Japan but the same model is listed with a $449.99 in the US and £379 in the UK. Phone will be out in Mist Blue, Soft Pink, White, and Universal Black versions. So far, we know that new Xperia X phone will also be ready in Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Sweden, and France.
