A few weeks after it was given the sweet Android 5.1 Lollipop update but almost half a year since it was announced, the Xperia M5 finally gets DxOMark’ed. We look forward to such mobile reviews because they are reliable especially if you want to know a device’s imaging performance and score. The unit is rolling out this February in Europe but DxO Labs already managed to review a unit earlier this week.

The results have been published and DxoMark said that the mid-range Sony smartphone offers solid camera performance. That’s definitely a good thing to say about any device because that means you can get value for your money. The Sony Xperia M5’s camera scored 79. Thanks to the 21.5MP sensor, fast and accurate autofocus, and good noise control in all conditions. The test image shows good detail preservation in most lightning conditions. Unfortunately, you may notice some white balance cast in outdoor, sharpness loss especially in the corners, color irregularities and visible exposure in outdoor, plus strong chroma noise when Flash is used.

When it comes to videos, quality is generally very good as per DxO Labs. However, it’s not ideal to use as an action camera. It’s best to use for stills in good lightning condition. Don’t rely on this one to produce great videos in low-light environment because details can be lost.

Sony Xperia M5 Mobile review g

The Sony Xperia M5 scored 81 in Mobile Photo and 75 in Video. Overall score is 79 which means it performed well just like the Galaxy S5, Xperia Z3, and Xperia Z2—all ranking No. 6 on Mobile Scores.
