Facebook’s stand-alone photo sharing app Slingshot may not be as popular as others of their kind like Snapchat, Instagram (also owned by Facebook of course), or Flickr, but it does have its own following, and these users have been requesting for several additional features to the app. Well, they’ve deigned to give you one of those you’ve been asking for and that is to make it easier to discover creative mobile photographers from around the world.

When you’ve updated your app, you’ll notice that there is now an Explore button at the top of the screen. If you tap it, you’ll be shown a grid of random shots and videos that are currently “trending” on the app. Just click on a photo that interests you and if you like what you see when you browse his/her/their other photos, then you can just choose to follow them. Or if you don’t want to subscribe to their photo feed but would just like to react to the current photo or video, just click on the smiley icon.

The purpose of Explore is of course to ” discover funny, inspiring and creative people from across the globe”, which is part of the beauty of a public photo sharing app. But just in case you’re not confident yet on your mobile photo skills and you don’t want yourself to be featured in the Explore section, you can choose to activate the Approve Followers option in the settings.

The last major update to Slingshot was back in December of last year, where they turned it into a simpler but more fun app with the addition of several options like replying to a post with a private photo or video reaction, and adding drawings and captions to photos before you send. If you haven’t tried it out yet, you can download the Slingshot app from the Google Play Store for free.
