The announcement of the Galaxy S7 (or whatever it will be called) is just a few days away and so fans of the OEM are eagerly awaiting all the official details and Samsung is teasing us to no end. Well if one of the three Twitter teasers that their official account released today can be believed, then the upcoming new flagship will be waterproof (well, as waterproof as one smartphone can be). Some information has also been leaked that would seem to corroborate that.
The 3rd teaser video that Samsung posted today on Twitter showed a girl dropping her phone into the pool then just getting it from the water and strolling away. The caption says “Change your idea of what a phone can handle on 2.21.16 #TheNextGalaxy”. So if we take the video and the words literally, then yes, we can assume that the next flagship will indeed be waterproof. An earlier specs leak said that the device would either have an IP67 or IP68 rating. The former indicates protection from immersion in liquids 15 centimeters and 1 meter in depth while the latter protects against complete, continuous submersion in water.
Samsung Indonesia “accidentally” uploaded a video showing archer Dellie Threesyadinda with the supposed #TheNextGalaxy device in training, while the rain is pouring down. So people concluded that the new smartphone (or smartphones) would indeed be waterproof. However, the video showed a Galaxy S6 Edge+, unless the new smartphone actually looks like one of last year’s flagships.
Well, we will be finding out in a few days whether or not it will indeed survive a dip in the pool or an accidental shower in your bathroom. Meanwhile, there are two other teaser videos that don’t have anything to do with waterproofing, but is all about the rumored 12MP main camera. If you’re curious, maybe we should just ask the llama.
