Samsung recently announced that it started manufacturing a new processor known as the Exynos 7 Dual 7270. This one is the first ever processor built for wearable devices. As the first mobile application processor, this product makes use of the South Korea tech giant’s 14-nanometer FinFET process technology and boasts of an LTE modem and full connectivity features.

The 14nm technology has been used by Samsung since last year on other processors like the Exynos 7570.The company has started to expand its adoption to be used in more products aside from smartphones. This time, the same technology is used for wearables in the form of the Exynos 7270. This development means future wearables will be more powerful than ever. The chip may be small to fit a wearable device yet very efficient in managing energy.

Current processors have limitations especially in small wearables but this new Exynos answers all that. Those design flexibility and energy usage are now solved by this chipset. The Exynos 7270 is powered by a pair of Cortex-A53 cores. It comes with a Cat.4 LTE 2CA modem, embedded WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, FM radio support, and location-based services with GNSS capabilities.

The Exynos 7270 processor is described to make power efficiency better by 20% so battery life is extended. The company has begun mass production which means we will find the application processor built on 14-Nanometer FinFET Technology in more wearable devices in the near future.
