We’ve only seen leaks of the Galaxy Grand Prime but no need to wait as Samsung has finally unveiled the new smartphone in India. The phone is said to be aimed at the selfie-generation, thanks to the impressive 5 megapixel front camera instead of the usual 2MP found on other phones.
The first information we received about the Galaxy Grand Prime was from Vietnam but Samsung chose to introduce this one in the Indian market. It’s not clear if the phone will arrive in the North America but we’re guessing it will be released soon in other Asian markets.
Specs of the Galaxy Grand Prime include 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB built-in storage, microSD card slot, a 5-inch qHD display with 960 x 540p resolution, 2,600 mAh battery, HSPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G connectivity, 8MP rear camera, and the 5MP front-facing camera we mentioned earlier. Also taking selfie photos to the next level is the 85 degree wide-angle lens.
The Galaxy Grand Prime is expected to rival the Moto G, Asus Zenfone 5, and Xiaomi Mi 3 in India. The phone will come with Android v4.4 (KitKat) out of the box. Price tag reads 15,499 INR which is about $250 in the United States.
Samsung India’s Vice President of Marketing, Mobile & IT Asim Warsi has this to say about the new Galaxy Grand Prime:
“Galaxy Grand Prime opens a whole new world of premium mobile experience for consumers looking at uninterrupted entertainment and multi-tasking on-the-go. Introducing the new trend of ‘Groupfie’, Galaxy Grand Prime features an advanced wide angle front camera best-suited to capture group images. With the launch of this power packed smartphone, we are further strengthening our Grand portfolio.”
It’s official now. This phone is selfie-focused. No, make that ‘Groupfie-focused’.
