Samsung has just introduced a 256GB embedded memory. It’s based on the Universal Flash Storage 2.0 standard—making it a first in the mobile industry to be mass produced. This one is ideal for the next premium flagship phones because it offers excellent performance for mobile devices—even better that what’s usually used for computers requiring SATA-based SSDs.

The high-density UFS memory is what makes this flash storage super fast—about 2x fast compared to the SATA SSD. Samsung’s EVP for Memory Sales and Marketing Joo Sun Choi said that with this new product, the company will be contributing to a “paradigm shift within the mobile storage market”.

Samung seems to be more aggressive these days in the premium storage game including the UFS, external SSDs, and OEM NVMe SSDs. With the new 256-gigabyte UFS, premium mobile devices with high-end specs and features can take advantage of bigger storage capacity and faster speed in a super compact chip size.

According to Samsung, this one can handle up to 45,000 and 40,000 input/output for reading and writing. That’s twice the previous model and about thrice the usual performance of standard external microSD cards available in the market today. This one better Ultra HD video playback, as well as, multitasking. This means you can watch 4K Ultra HD movies while searching for information on split screens without any lag.

The 256GB UFS is actually a follow-up to last year’s 12GB UFS. Within one year, that’s quite a huge jump with double the capacity and double the speed.
