Aside from the Galaxy Note 7 and Note 7 edge, Samsung is also gearing up for the Gear S3. It may take a while before the new Gear will be unveiled but we’ve been hearing more information about the next-gen smartwatch from the South Korean tech giant. The Gear S2 may be receiving a number of major updates lately which is somewhat a preparation for the new Gear S3.

So far, we heard that a jeweler will be partnering with Samsung for the Gear S3. Its shape will still be the same–round but with new features like a speedometer, barometer, and altimeter. The latter will measure the altitude to show in the display as meter/mile data, altitude graph, or altitude on the X- and Y-axis.

There’s the barometer that can measure atmospheric pressure. This means the smartwatch can help forecast the weather and display directly on the S3 display. You can even calibrate the barometer manually. Simply set the reference values for distance, sea level, and altitude.

Meanwhile, the speedometer will do what it’s supposed to do: track distance and time, calculate average speed, and measure current speed. This feature works with the GPS so make sure location services are enabled. The Gear S3 can keep records of speed, date, measurements, or just about any data the speedometer can measure.

With these information, we can say that the Gear S3 will be more for the sports enthusiast or those who have an active lifestyle. More activities can also be measured. So whether you are walking, running, surfing, skydiving, or mountain climbing, you can track the data you need with the new Samsung smartwatch.

Rumor has it that the smartwatch will be known as the Gear S3 Frontier because of the many sports and activities one can track. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
