While your Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge+ may look pretty with its dual-curve display, this feature didn’t really do much for your device. Aside from the people and apps edge displays, there really wasn’t much you could do with the panels. But the latest Android update, Marshmallow 6.0 will supposedly bolster the functionality of the curved display, making you feel like you actually have a new smartphone. Well, sort of. At least, you now have more reason to use the edge display panels.

When your device has upgraded to Marshmallow, you will now be able to see more functionality for your edge panel. You now have a My Places feature which lists all your most recently used apps, a huge help especially if you have tons of apps installed in your smartphone. And if you know which apps you frequently use, you can now add them to the Task edge panel, which will contain shortcuts to said apps.

Meanwhile, you will also have a Quick tools panel which will show your current location and even has a compass for when you’re not sure where your current location is. You also now have separate tiles for S Planner, Weather, Twitter Trends, Yahoo Finance, and Sports, which is great news if you use any of those apps frequently.

However, you will only be able to enjoy all these extra panels when your Galaxy S6 edge or Galaxy S6 edge+ will already receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Unfortunately, there is still no word as to when this will happen. Hopefully, soon.

  1. Is there an update that will turn my s6 into a nexus device so I can get on with life?! This wait to upgrade process is growing more irksome with each iteration.

  2. I’ve had all these Edge apps and more since September 2014 on my Samsung Galaxy Note (4) Edge… Which makes my phone better than anything Samsung has come out with since.
