If you’re a hardcore Android, probably know who Rockchip is – for the uninitiated, they’re an outfit known for manufacturing low cost processors for tablets, smartphones, and even Chromebooks in the entry level to low end markets. What we probably won’t know – since very few people will have encountered Rockchip devices in this part of the world – is that the outfit also creates custom Android UI’s (user interfaces) for their devices, one of which is the Light Biz OS.

The Light Biz OS is designed to make Android work and move and operate much like how a desktop would. This is so users can work in a multi-window system more appropriate for the working environment. There’s even support for multi-display systems – hook up your tablet to a bigger screen as an extension of your workspace.

The UI runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and can run pretty much any app you throw at it. In the multi-window feature, you can run apps full screen, or in resizable windows. There’s true multi-tasking, a taskbar, a “Windows” type start menu for an app launcher, and support for keyboard shortcuts.

If you remember Remix OS, that UI was also created with this in mind. We’re not able to get Light Biz OS from the web, as Rockchip provides a copy of this UI for gadget manufacturers that use the RK3288 and RK3368 chips in their devices. Remix OS is more readily available, although we’d love to take a look at how Rockchip implemented this.
