Video game console emulators have made it possible for mobile gamers to make use of their smartphones or tablets to play their favorite games, without having to bring along their game consoles everywhere they go. One of the more popular and well-received apps that do this is RetroArch, which we mentioned as one of our favorites before. Now the app has received a long awaited update, bringing an overhaul of its user interface, as well as several under-the-hood tinkers.
The all-in-one emulator (which will not be exactly all-in-one anymore but more on that later) has received a UI update, which actually was almost a year in the making. Improvements have been made on the font, which now uses a Truetype-based font renderer from a low-res one before. Inertia is now included in the touch drag movements when you’re playing a game, and forceful swipe and scrolling is also now quicker. The main menu is also now using a cross-style look, which may remind you of the PS3 or PS Portable.
As mentioned earlier, it is not strictly an all-in-one app anymore because you can now just download the “core” for the consoles and arcade emulation tools. So you can just install the ones you want or need so they won’t take up valuable storage space. Other new features include automatic directory scanning if you have new game files, input and controller remapping that is now built-in, plus support for “cheats” ala Game Genie.
The app has also been translated into German, French, Dutch and Portugese. The initial update rolled out earlier this month, but now, a newer and more detailed update has come about. Check out the change log in the source link or go to the Google Play Store page.
