If you like spree games like Grand Theft Auto but also the graphic sensibilities of classics like Super Mario and the action of those like Metal Gear, then you will probably welcome this new game on your mobile device. Retro City Rampage DX, which has been a favorite on Steam is now finally available for Android through the Google Play Store. You get to live the life of a no-holds barred criminal, digitally speaking of course, in Retro City Rampage DX.

It’s quite obvious given that it’s in the title already, but the game uses 8-bit style gameplay but with the added modernity of streamlined gameplay elements and storytelling, as well as parallax scrolling and even an expanded color palette. Basically you can go and rampage all over the city and play more than 60 story missions, more than 40 arcade challenges, get more than 25 weapons and power-ups, steal more than 50 vehicle types, and use more than 200 customer characterizations.

The game with its “go-anywhere, do-anything, top-down perspective” format also has a lot of pop-culture references, particularly games and movies. In just the first mission, you’ll get overt mentions and references to games like Super Mario and Duck Hunt, plus famous 80s-90s movies like Back to the Future and Bill & Ted. If you still feel like you wanna be stuck in past decades, the game has a ROM City Rampage mode where you get hardware that’s accurate for 1989.

You can get Retro City Rampage DX from the Google Play Store for $4.99. It also has full controller support and you can play it on Android TV, aside from your mobile device.
