Chromecast is perhaps the most popular digital media player stick in the market today but it’s got a lot of rivals. There’s the Amazon Fire TV Stick and the Roku Streaming Stick as the closest. There’s a newcomer in gadget town and it’s call the Qualcomm 4K Streaming Adapter. However, it’s still not a final product, just a prototype so we can still see a few significant changes in the future.
Yep, you read that right: it’s from Qualcomm. The popular chip manufacturer plans on joining the bandwagon and probably take on Google’s Chromecast. The HDMI-capable stick is powered by Snapdragon. It’s actually a mini Android computer that brings home entertainment to your HDTV. This is similar to the other streaming devices but this one works with a number of wireless connectivity from WiFi to 3G to 4G LTE.
The Qualcomm 4K Streaming Adapter isn’t the final product yet but it looks ready for battle already. The red stick as a prototype uses a Snapdragon 800 processor and runs Android although the user interface isn’t final yet. This special dongle is aimed to bring remote content to the TV–just like Chromecast. The only difference is that it supports faster mobile Internet connectivity like LTE-U and WiFi 801.11ac. LTE Broadcast will soon be maximized with this Qualcomm 4K Streaming Adapter. It can also be geo-located so depending on the location of the stick, it will show different screens and different content.
No word yet if Qualcomm will officially bring this to the market or when exactly but it’s always nice to see prototypes this impressive. Let’s see if Qualcomm will finally bring this to production. It’s really a great idea and I think it will capture a significant share of the market. What do you think?

I think it misses the point of why Chromecast is so popular, which is it’s massive (and increasing) integration with play store apps and games, not just a select few media streaming services.
