It’s been a rough few weeks for Niantic and its hit augmented reality game Pokemon GO. A lot of hardcore users have been up in arms about Niantic’s decision to disallow Pokemon tracking apps, and there’s that news of the Pokemon GO Plus accessory being delayed, and the game taking a hit as people are looking for more features in the game like one-on-one battles and Pokemon trading. But a little bit of good news this time – you can be sure that there will be a lot of people trying to catch Pokemon during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro because Niantic has just announced that it will be launching Pokemon GO in Latin America to coincide with the sporting event.

The Summer Olympics only happens once every four years, so you can be sure that people are going flock to it to watch the sporting spectacle. Niantic will be trying to ride the wave of people traveling to Brazil for the Olympics by launching Pokemon GO in Latin America to coincide with the event. This will ensure that there will be people walking around in Rio trying to catch those Ratatas and Squirtles, as the announcement was made over Pokemon GO’s official Facebook page.

It was also communicated that Niantic will be patching the buggy “Battery Saver” mode that’s plaguing some users, but mostly on iOS devices. It’s still good to know that Niantic hasn’t given up on the game and is continuing to patch these bugs.

Aside from that, there’s the announcement of a legendary Pokemon or two escaping Niantic’s servers – but they have been caught and returned to Niantic, so no worries there. Latin America is a big region, so let’s hope Niantic’s servers can keep up with the sudden rush of players from there.
