From 21 million downloads on its first week to 50 million this week, Pokémon GO has definitely broken a number of records in the mobile gaming industry. No doubt it’s the biggest mobile game in US history in such a short span of time. It’s now on our third week and the game has hit dozens of countries already including its home country Japan despite some delay at first.
Nintendo shares went up but Pokémon GO still needs to up its game to maintain the popularity. The title has already exceeded the 50 million installs on Google Play alone. Across iOS and Android, it’s estimated the game has been download over 75 million times already. Nintendo is aiming to launch the augmented reality game in 200 markets so imagine the rise in number in the coming weeks or months.
Sensor Tower recently shared data of how Pokémon GO is doing in many territories and across platforms. The firm acknowledged the title ‘The Fastest Mobile Game to 50 Million Worldwide Downloads’. The red data refer to the number of days each game reached 50 million downloads. After Pokémon GO, there’s Color Switch, Slitheri.io, Candy Crush Jelly Saga, Agar.io, and Piano Tiles 2.
Color Switch reached 50 million after over two months. We thought nobody could beat that until Pokémon GO came along, beating the record after only 19 days.
Pokémon GO goes head-to-head with Clash Royale in reaching 50 million downloads this year but the latter still has a long way to go although it’s still another popular game.
Pokémon GO is expected to smash more records and we won’t be surpassed if it reachers 100 million downloads in a few weeks or so. Nintendo and Niantic only need to launch the AR game in those markets as promised. It sounds easy but it’s not since we’re talking about servers possibly crashing. There are resources and logistics to consider so it might take a while for other markets to receive the game.
