The last we heard about Pocket Casts was a year ago when Chromecast support was added. Developer Shifty Jelly said it’s been working on the update the past few months, adding suggestions from regular users of the app. As with most recent and similar app updates, this version brings Material Design elements to the experience. The interface is still familiar but you’ll see more animations and bolder graphics.
The Pocket Casts app looks great in either dark or light theme. Continous playback can be easily accessed and controlled on the user interface with the new ‘Up Next’ feature added to the forefront. The mini play now allows user to add or remove episodes or jump between. Swiping across will also show you episodes or shows that are coming up.
To efficiently manage episodes, you can just swipe to the left of an episode row to toggle between those that are unplayed on played. Doing this will give you a less cluttered look. And to enhance listening experience, Shifty Jelly has added audio effects that include Volume boost and Silence Removal. The latter reduces the silences on a podcast while the Volume Boost increases volume without having to change device volume.
App also supports Android Wear. This means from your smartwatch, you can launch Pocket Casts and tap on the small screen to play, pause, skip, jump between episodes, and even control podcasts from the app.
